Spring Home Tour | Part 2

Spring Home Tour

Hello again everyone and welcome to my Spring Home Tour Part 2! This week I’ve joined up with 20 Canadian bloggers for the Canadian Bloggers Spring Home Tour hosted by Shannon at AKA Design and Christina at The DIY Mommy For those of you who are new around here, my name is Kim and I’m so excited to share a little more of my home with you all!

Spring Home Tour 2017

In my previous Spring Home Tour Part 1, I shared My living room and  the breakfast nook. This week I’ll be sharing the dining room, the guest room and the Master bedroom. I try to make this as simple as possible and start with a good spring cleaning. Then I change out the winter throw pillows and bedding for some fresh spring ones. Mostly using  pieces that I already have. A few little fresh and faux flowers and  greens and my home is ready for spring!  So let’s begin the tour,  grab a cup of something comfy, sit back and enjoy!

Guest room

Spring home tour 2017

In the guest room I changed out the winter bedding and added some spring bedding  I’ve had for years in beautiful shades of blue and sage. I used the same colours for the throw pillows as well. A few fresh and faux flowers and greenery and everything looks bright, fresh and ready for spring!

The guest room is the sunniest and  brightest one in the house and a favourite of Jack who loves to lay in here. He also loves to follow me around so If I’m taking pics, he’s sure to be in them! This room is used mostly by my daughter and Son in law when they come to visit so it’s nice to keep it warm and welcoming.

I’ve white washed this dresser and then sanded it down, which I may do again. 🙂 I have a tutorial for that here.

Master Bedroom

In the master, I changed out the bedding from winter to spring, added some fresh flowers and the green magnolia wreath. It’s nice to have faux florals and greens, unless you’re able to keep up with fresh ones…which I’m not! Lol. I made the blue velvet pillow and the little one in front of it was made out of a throw rug. I have a tutorial for that here. The rug is from my daughter and I thought it would look great in here. It goes so well with the blues in the bedding.

Dining Room

Spring Tour 2017

In the dining room I did some spring cleaning and removed a lot of extra dishes etc. I changed out the curtains for one’s that I already had. Replacing the white fur throw pillows for these blue and white linen  ones makes such a difference! I’ve had these linen pillows for years and they’re my favourite! For the mantel I placed a couple of topiaries with some vintage brass candle holders I’ve been collecting and a brass terrarium. Some gorgeous hydrangeas and a few little faux fern stems to add some freshness and greenery.

Simple Spring Home Tour 2017

Joyful Spring Home Tour

Thanks so much for joining along with me and fifteen other bloggers as we share our homes for the Joyful Spring Home Tour.  If you’re coming from Haley at the  The MountainView Cottage welcome, Isn’t that bedroom gorgeous? You can find links to all the bloggers at the bottom of this post where you’ll find tons of  inspiration for your own homes. So grab a cup of something comforting, settle in for my simple spring home tour and enjoy.

Simple Spring Home Tour 2017

I’ll be sharing my living room and breakfast nook this week for Part 1 of the tour and the following week I’ll be sharing Part 2. I called it the simple spring home tour because changing out your decor for spring doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. I simply changed out my winter throw pillows for some more springlike colours and textures. Then I added some fresh and faux flowers as well as some greenery! It really can be that simple and easy.

You may find the odd pet hanging around but they come with the home!

Spring Home Tour 2017

The shiplap off the kitchen here is new and I love it. I added these little coat hooks and it’s a great place to hang your apron..and any odd wreaths you may want to hang up too! The wreaths  bring a great hit of green to the space making it feel fresh and springlike.

Spring Home Tour 2017

The coffee table was a thrift find and I stripped it down of all its old varnish to reveal this beauty! I think it’s a one of a kind piece and it’s added such warmth to the living room. I’ve layered it up with a few pieces as well as fresh and faux flowers. Nothing says spring like tulips and hydrangeas!

Spring Home Tour 2017

My home is pretty white and neutral so it makes it quite easy to change things up. Trading out the winter pillows for these beautiful blues and adding the flowers and greenery is all it’s taken to spruce this room up for spring.

I kept it pretty simple but added a little whimsy to my mantel this year in the form of this bust. She has a hollow place in the top of her head where you can place plants. She now has a lovely asparagus fern for hair! I just call her “my lady”. With the addition of these wooden bead “pearls” I’d say she looks pretty striking! Plants always make a space fresher.

Spring Home Tour 2017

The gorgeous pillow on the chair was made by me from a throw rug, you can find the tutorial here. I love the colour blue and come spring you’ll find it all throughout my home. It makes me think I live in a coastal cottage by the sea. The lake is actually down the street, so I’m not that far off… a girl can dream right?

This is our little breakfast nook. Other than changing out the curtains to spring/summer ones, the only changes I made in here were to add these tulips. Once the tulips are gone, I’ll add a plant or some faux greenery to keep it looking fresh. All pretty simple touches that make a big impact

Canadian Bloggers Fall Home Tour 2015

6:00 am by kim 13 Comments

I’m very excited to be joining a group of 11 bloggers participating in the Canadian bloggers Fall Home Tour, hosted by the lovely and talented Shannon from AKAdesign and Christine from thediymommy!
If you’ve come by way of Nalle’s House  welcome! If you haven’t started from the beginning, you can check out the bottom of this page to find the links and  make sure you’re able to view all of these talented women and their homes.
Happy Fall everybody!
I’m calling my tour the “Simple Fall Home Tour”
because I added simple natural elements that were easy to decorate with and fit in with the neutral vibe I love. Other than the pumpkins all the natural elements can be used for any seasonal decorating.
We’ll start with my dining room which is the first room you see as you walk into our house.
I used soft white baby boos along with birch branches, salal leaves, seeded eucalyptus, some twinkle lights  and these gorgeous wood slices that make any tablescape look earthy and festive. I had some leftover linen fabric that I made a table runner out of along with napkins.

A cozy natural fall tabelscape

Next stop is the family room, I keep this room very neutral all the time and am able to change up the colour/décor by simply adding different pillows/cushions. In the fall I love to use brown in any shade, I feel it is so homey and in keeping with the season.

I kept my mantel very simple this year. I changed out the regular mirror that was up there and used my favourite twinkle lights, wooden candleholders and some cotton twigs…of course I added some pumpkins!

I love adding candles to the space and this “spiced apple” smells good enough to eat! Throw in a few sugar pinecones and you’ve a cute little no fuss vignette!

I keep the twinklelights and this pom pom wreath up all year long, they work in every season!

Here’s another view of the family room, Bubs decided to make an appearance.

From the family room you can see into the kitchen and breakfast nook. I added a bit of greenery and birch along with a few pumpkins on my shelves with my ironstone collection.

Who doesn’t like a trough full of baby boos?
Some of the greenery I used on the tables is faux greenery I got from the dollar store! Everything I decorated my fall home with  are things you can find easily outdoors and/or for not a lot of money!

I’ll stop the tour downstairs as the upstairs is currently getting some new plank floors which are almost done and I can’t wait to share with you!
I’m so glad you stopped by and allowed me to share my simple fall home with you.

The next stop on the Canadian bloggers fall home tour is Citrine Living.

New Dropcloth slipcover

2:03 pm by kim 100 Comments

 Hi everyone!
I’ve been missing in action this past week.
Just taking a little time off and working on a project.

I want to thank you all for the awesome lampshade advice!
So many of you were so sweet to help me with this lampshade dilemma.
The majority of you thought the new lampshade was a little too small for the base and I agree. I am going to return both of  the burlap/linen shades.
Some of you suggested that I cover the white shade, which is something I thought of but a fabric on top of the shade would allow little light in through the shade and I use these lamps for reading.
I am going to do what some of you suggested and keep the white shades and hold out for something that fits.
Once again, so appreciative of all your help!

Now here is what I’ve been working on this week.
I bought a matching pair of these club chairs at GW a few months ago with the idea of slipcovering them.
They are a hideous lovely green velvet underneath. Lol.

It took me about a week to finish this one, with plenty of time off in between for my back to recuperate!
I used my favorite painter’s dropcloth to cover this. Love the look and it fit my budget.

Do you notice the seam in the middle of the seat panel? Didn’t even notice it until I had the seat cover on.
Argh! May do this seat cover over again.

Here it is again with a different throw pillow. I love them both!

You can see the ladder I got at the antique barn last weekend with hubby, behind the chair. It was 11 feet tall so hubby cut it down to fit my 8 foot ceilings. Really luv these old ladders.

I still have another chair to do! Ugghh.
I think I’ll take some time off before starting it though!

Thanks for stopping by and blessings to you all.

Mini Makeover part 3…the headboard

12:48 am by kim 53 Comments

Hi everyone, I said I would post this today but was called away to see my sick sis. I quickly made my bed and tried to take some pics while I had the light.
Better late than never!

Here is my headboard we were so blessed to get as an old door from our church a few weeks back.

This door was original to our Church building which was built in 1899.

Here is the before. She had a few chips but not enough to make her chippy. I wasn’t sure what to do with her and got a lot of suggestions and lovely comments from you all.  I thought about removing the old paint but didn’t want to get into the whole lead thing. Even after a cleaning she still seemed a little “dirty” looking to me. I knew I had to finish her off in a way that I would feel comfortable spending all my nights with her!

Hubby and I put up some molding on the top to give it a finished look and  provide a little shelf. I gave her a couple coats of Ben Moore’s “cloud white” which also match the night tables. I wanted to keep the paint color a little uniform to create a sense of space as the room is not that wide on this end.
As soon as I put my first coat of paint on her I knew I had made the right decision for me.
I love it!

Yes, Jack managed to get into another pic! I think he goes so well with the bed!

I added baskets under the table for extra storage space. I placed a couple of lovely crocheted pillow cases I got from GW in there for the pic but I’ll be using the baskets  for junk magazines and books.

You get to see a pic of Jack and Tara. Seeing Tara in a pic is a rare sight as she is quite camera shy so I thought I would provide you all with the thrill of seeing her. Lol.

She’s not shabby or chippy but hey! If you get to be 112 years old you may want a little paint job too! I’m really pleased with how she turned out!

I will probably post a part 4 to this mini makeover because I’m trying to milk it for all it’s worth I’ve got a couple of  ideas for my blank wall. Stay tuned!

Be blessed
